2012 Galaxy of Lights and Santa's Rocket Workshop
Nov 22 – Dec 24
This year, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center® (USSRC) is again proud to be working with the Huntsville Botanical Gardens for the 2012 Galaxy of Lights! Galaxy of Lights is a holiday light extravaganza featuring larger-than-life animated light displays as you drive through the Space Center and Gardens. It is the perfect holiday treat for the young and young-at-heart, and the best way to get into the holiday spirit.
As guests enter the Galaxy of Lights, we are inviting them to stop at Santa’s Rocket Workshop where Santa’s Propulsion Crew is adding rocket engines to his sleigh. Visitors will have an opportunity to take photos with Santa and see live reindeer, enjoy the lighted aircraft at Aviation Challenge and take a ride on our Rocket Tram!

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - This fun and informative hands on workshop will talk about the history of space food, starting when the first American astronaut ate in space through the food they eat on the ISS today. Not only have food choices changed but so have the types of food they eat. You will learn all about the food the astronauts ate and how it is prepared. Of course you will get to sample some space food and even take some space food home with you.
Santa’s Rocket Workshop Seeks Volunteers
The USSRC is looking for volunteer groups to help make this extension of Galaxy of Lights a great success. Each night, we will need 12 volunteers to work as greeters, parking attendants and pedestrian crossing facilitators. This will be a great opportunity for your group or family to serve the community, build stronger relationships, get your name out to the public and have a blast! The U.S. Space and Rocket Center will provide a sign with your group’s name for public display and we will be providing dinner for each volunteer group. Space is limited.
