HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The U.S. Space & Rocket Center will hold a media preview of the world premiere of the exhibit, Apollo: When We Went to the Moon, Friday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. The Rocket Center education and curatorial staff worked with Flying Fish, an Australian-based exhibit company, to develop the exhibit that chronicles space exploration from the contentious days of the Space Race to the collaborative culture of the International Space Station program and beyond.

“Apollo: When We Went to the Moon explores how the technological achievement of Apollo 11 transformed our understanding of humanity’s potential on Earth and in space,” Dr. Kay Taylor, the Rocket Center’s Director of Education, said. “The exhibit takes the guest from the turbulent era of the Cold War Space Race to the first footprints on the moon and reveals how that achievement shaped – and continues to shape – manned space exploration. At heart, this exhibit reflects how the scientific discovery of space exploration is a unifying drive that can bring nations and people together.”

After its Huntsville debut, the exhibit is scheduled to travel to the Science Museum of Minnesota, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York, Space Center Houston and other locations.

“We’re extremely excited for Rocket Center visitors to experience the world premiere of Apollo: When We Went to the Moon before it begins its national tour. Our second project with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, this state-of-the-art exhibition was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to work on. Together, we’ve accessed the depths of the Rocket Center’s archives and collections to create a spectacular exhibition. Visitors will not want to miss this one, especially on the 50th anniversary of the moon landing,” says Jay Brown, Principal & Managing Director of Flying Fish Exhibits, the exhibition’s co-producer.

Apollo: When We Went to the Moon opens to the public Saturday, Feb. 16, and is included with admission or museum membership.
