The weeklong program includes authentic astronaut training simulators and activities developed to promote learning in a classroom setting. The curriculum includes NASA-inspired lesson plans and is correlated to the National Science and Math Educational Standards. The hands-on learning activities are designed to be replicated in the classroom and aim to excite students about STEM. Activities will be geared to span grade levels 4 – 9 but can be designed to be easily adapted for all grades and subjects through collaboration.

Trainees in Space Academy® for Educators earn up to 45 hours of Continuing Education credit, and educators get access to their own website with lesson plans, standards, and other resources. Space Academy® for Educators is offered from June through early August. Housing, program materials, and meals are included in the tuition.

**Trainees attending Space Academy for Educators are housed offsite near the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Transportation is provided between the dorm and the camp for the duration of the program.

During camp, educators work together, sharing best practices to create exciting activities for their students and take away new knowledge about technological developments in space-related subjects such as:

  • International Space Station
  • Living and working in microgravity
  • Rocketry
  • Propulsion
  • Astronomy
  • NASA’s plans for traveling to the Moon and Mars
